EmpowHer North East works to engage young people who may be disengaged from mainstream education, including those who struggle with attendance or require a more practical, alternative approach to learning. We work closely with schools, pupil referral units and local authorities to deliver functional education alongside employability and life skills programmes. Recognising that every learner has individual needs, we adopt a flexible, creative and inclusive approach that supports re-engagement, confidence building and positive outcomes.

EmpowHer North East is an experienced team specialising in the delivery of beauty training for young people at Key Stages 3 and 4. Our provision includes eyelash extensions, make-up application, manicure and pedicure, hair styling and braiding, alongside essential employability and life skills such as reception duties, client care, running a small business, health and wellbeing, anger management and communication styles. We place strong emphasis on structured yet adaptable lesson schedules to maximise engagement, support individual progress and ensure effective learning outcomes.

When the lessons at Empowher are not working towards accreditation or qualification they focus heavily on learner’s empowerment. The team believe strongly in building a routine and giving learners the skills including communication, respect, and resilience to be able to function in both work and school environments.

Tasks are kept short and there is a variety of activities per day including academic and practical to help learners stay focused and to accommodate Special Education and Disability Needs (SEND).

A variety of tasks enables pupils to decide which aspects of the beauty or hair industry they prefer and would like to focus on. Learners are given a voice and are allowed to vote on some activities following good behaviour.

The aim is to embed Maths, English and ICT within chosen topic areas. Learners will develop their English through writing, speaking, and listening throughout the sessions.
